Description

Jobs in this family operate motor vehicles and commercial vehicles to transport individuals, supplies, products, and materials.

Typical functions

The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:

  • Operate a motor vehicle.
  • Pick up and/or deliver products, surplus property, and materials.
  • Transport clients.
  • Deliver mail and messages.

The work assigned to positions in this series ranges from picking up and/or delivering supplies to operating a large tractor trailer.

Driver

Employees are accountable for operating a motor vehicle in the performance of duties such as transporting clients; delivering mail and messages; and picking up and/or delivering a variety of supplies, products, or materials. Identifies and/or schedules vehicle repairs.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

Knowledge of the rules and regulations regarding the safe operation of motorized equipment and traffic laws. Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and efficiently. Ability to lift, move, and stack heavy objects. Ability to perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment.

Typical qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent, driver’s license, and 1 year of relevant experience.

Transport Driver

Employees are responsible for operating a large tractor trailer as well as picking up or delivering vocational enterprises products, surplus property, or other materials and/or supplies to various governmental agencies throughout the state and United States.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous level: Knowledge of federal and state regulations relating to interstate truck operation. Ability to operate a large tractor trailer safely and efficiently.

Typical qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent, commercial driver’s license, and 1 year of relevant experience.
