Addiction Counselor Supervisor

General summary

This is a professional supervisory position responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the overall treatment or rehabilitation program within a correctional or other treatment setting for individuals with substance use disorders.  An employee at this level will assign, review, and evaluate the work of unit staff to ensure that work is performed according to agency and facility policies and procedures.  In addition, the position will be expected to work with other professional and administrative staff to develop and implement facility policies and procedures related to non-medical aspects of a treatment or rehabilitation program.  

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous levels:  Knowledge of current practices and staff organization in the treatment of individuals with mental illness and applications to the field of substance use disorders.  Ability to plan, develop, and evaluate services for quality and effectiveness, and to supervise, train, and evaluate the work of lower-level addiction counseling staff.

Typical qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 3 or more years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
