Physical Therapist

General summary

This is a licensed professional position responsible for treating injured, ill, or disabled patients through therapeutic use of everyday activities to help these patients/residents develop, recover, improve, and maintain the skills needed for daily living and working.  Acts with independence in directing screening and assessment, treatment, intervention, administration, program planning, and documentation for acute and long-term care patients to enable them to improve their optimal functional abilities.  Applies clinical reasoning in developing physical therapy plans and programs.  Plans the workload of employees, and provides supervision, training, and development.  Delivers work direction and clinical supervision to Physical Therapist Assistants and other support staff.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous level:  Knowledge of principles and methods used to develop and implement individual treatment plans.  Ability to understand, interpret, and adapt a physician’s written or oral directions utilizing evidence-based treatment options; and to plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinate therapists and aides.

Typical qualifications

Licensure as a Physical Therapist.
