Environmental Technician

General summary

This is a first-level position accountable for gathering routine, specific environmental/natural resources data and samples, recording and entering information into databases, obtaining standard reports for use by others, and performing a variety of manual labor activities. Work at this level is controlled by protocols and/or specific assignments with clear instruction, and is limited but specialized in nature. Positions at this level also require knowledge of the basic characteristics of the data collected for proper data entry and/or proper manual labor requirements. Employees in these roles are trained on the job and knowledge is learned within a few months.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

Knowledge of sample collection methods and techniques.  Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license. Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.

Typical qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.
