General summary

This is a senior-level professional position accountable for managing and overseeing the grant process. Incumbents direct and manage the various facets of grants (e.g. research, compliance, etc.) involved with developing, applying for, and/or awarding grants. Grants Specialists give consultative advice on grant methods, including identifying and prioritizing needs, assessing the impact of grant decisions, and developing strategies to mitigate risk. Grants Specialists are accountable for recommending State policies and guidelines, training agency staff, and reviewing State grant programs for compliance with statutes, administrative rules, and policies.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous levels: Skill in identifying relevant historical and current data that substantiates a grant request. Ability to assimilate facts and restate the facts in a clear and concise written format. Ability to assess the impact of grant decisions and develop strategies to reduce risk.

Typical qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
