Senior Human Resources Consultant

General summary

This is an advanced professional position which acts with independence and exercises judgment for designated human resource areas.  Employees in this class determine appropriate actions in conducting analysis, and investigate and resolve requests of a more complex nature. Position incumbents are accountable for providing advice and training to agency human resource and non-human resource staff in designated program area. Responsibilities involve conducting analysis of external practices and providing recommendations to a supervisor. Employees work on project teams both within designated areas and other human resources areas toward the end of enhancing statewide human resources programs. Oversight may be provided to vocational and/or lower-level professional positions responsible for performing duties such as employee classification, training and development, recruitment, and continuous improvement. Employee supervision may include making hire recommendations; training; work planning, assignments; and review and performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline.                                                              

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous levels: Knowledge of current human resources and personnel administrative trends; supervision techniques; and data analysis methods. Ability to research and analyze facts and develop recommendations and/or solutions.

Typical qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
