Capitol Police Dispatcher

General summary

This is a position responsible for receiving incoming calls, entering situational data into the computer, evaluating the situation/incident, and following standard operating procedures to initiate an appropriate response. All situations/incidents are recorded, including who was contacted, how the incident occurred, and what actions were taken. Duties are learned on-the-job in a relatively short time frame and employees follow established procedures.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

Knowledge of two-way radio communications equipment and operation. Ability to work in rotating shifts, including nights and weekends. Ability to process and record information quickly and accurately in emergency situations.

Typical qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.
