General summary

This is a supervisory position accountable for the direction of fire, rescue, and medical treatment services at an assigned location. Work involves planning and directing the operations of multiple firefighting crews assigned to a shift. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations, training, planning and assigning work, performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Additional duties include coordinating the response to fire alarms and emergency medical service (EMS), incidents to contain or extinguish fire, and emergency medical activities.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous levels: Knowledge of training techniques. Ability to direct personnel and firefighters in preventing and/or extinguishing fires and preventing accidents.

Typical qualifications

5 or more years of firefighting experience and 2 or more years of supervising a firefighting crew.
