Probation and Parole Assistant

General summary

Vocational-level position focused on monitoring, evaluating, and documenting offender progress, behavior, and compliance. May collect urine samples to monitor drug or alcohol consumption. Employees at this level may be required to gather and verify information through interviews, records and document research, and evaluation of background information.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

Knowledge of requirements and procedures of probation and parole programs.  Knowledge of interviewing and investigative techniques. Knowledge of use-of-force guidelines and the ability to apply those guidelines in a professional manner. Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods. Ability to run, jump, climb stairs, and physically restrain offenders. Ability to learn procedures of Electronic Monitoring Programs. Ability to administer substance abuse assessment devices and collect DNA samples. Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license.

Typical qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent and 0-1 year of work experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
