Safety Inspector

General summary

This is a vocational-level position accountable for performing inspection activities. At this level, employees have the ability to make recommendations to approve or reject construction plans and drawings per compliance requirements. Employees at this level assess compliance with applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, and approved drawings; and investigate potential violations and complaints. Employees take equipment/items in and out of service and may issue stop work orders.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

Knowledge of laws, regulations, codes, and standards pertaining to the assigned area. Knowledge of current methods, practices, techniques, and developments. Knowledge of standard equipment and materials. Ability to comprehend, interpret, and explain codes and standards; maintain and prepare records and reports; and recommend and monitor corrective action. Ability to prepare complete and concise reports. Ability to meet physical demands of the position. Ability to travel extensively in the performance of assigned duties.

Typical qualifications

2-4 years of relevant experience. Applicable certification may be required. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
